In a strategic move, Airshare, based in Kansas City, has acquired the private management segment of Wheels Up Experience just a week after Delta Air Lines and other investors acquired the troubled aviation company. This acquisition entails the transfer of 90 managed aircraft and 300 personnel to Kansas City, significantly expanding Airshare's portfolio to encompass 146 aircraft in total. As a result, Wheels Up retains ownership of 215 aircraft, which includes 75 King Airs and 113 light and super midsize jets.
The acquisition by Airshare represents a pivotal phase in the company's expansion strategy, as it is widely recognized for its practice of not imposing charges for repositioning flights within 120 miles of 30 major airports. Airshare anticipates a seamless transition as it takes over the entire business, including the existing staff. Concurrently, Wheels Up is continuing its transformation into a more streamlined operation under a restructured management team and board of directors.
