The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has announced that its highly anticipated UAS4STEM competition will take place at the 2023 Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in convention. Now in its third year, the competition is expanding to include both beginner and advanced divisions, offering an exciting challenge for participating teams. UAS4STEM is open to students aged 11 to 19 who form teams to showcase their unmanned aircraft system (UAS) skills.
Kyle Jaracz, AMA's education director, expressed the organization's commitment to continuously challenging returning competitors. He stated, "As the competition has evolved, we want to continue to challenge the competitors who return year after year. The Advanced Division will have teams build on skills from last year’s competition."
Teams participating in UAS4STEM will construct their drones before the competition and will be evaluated based on their performance in completing a specific mission. Beginner class teams will focus on UAS programming and flying fundamentals, while advanced class participants will be tasked with developing a mechanism to pick up and transport items. The event, featuring six teams in each division, is scheduled to take place from July 24 to July 26, 2023.
