Ameriflight Receives FAA Approval for Drone Integration, Expanding into Nationwide Drone Deliveries
Cargo airline Ameriflight has obtained the green light from the FAA to incorporate drones into its operations, paving the way for upcoming drone deliveries across the United States. Jim Martell, the company owner, expressed enthusiasm, stating that the establishment of their UAS division enables them to tap into an untapped delivery market and significantly enhance speed and safety logistics. The drones will be utilized for delivering high-priority shipments of small packages in urban and suburban areas, starting with medical samples and pharmaceuticals.
Ameriflight assures that the integration of drones is an expansion that will not impact its crewed aircraft operations, which currently utilize around 100 aircraft. The drones, manufactured by Matternet, will be controlled from a centralized facility. Following a thorough four-year review, the FAA granted type certification to these drones in September 2022. The quadcopter has a capacity to carry approximately 4.4 pounds up to a distance of 12 miles, while maintaining constant communication with the central control facility and a cloud-based software system responsible for routing and flight profiles. This is not a mere beta test, as the partnership offers customers immediate access to a reliable, scalable, and secure drone-based delivery solution. #Ameriflight #DroneDeliveries #Logistics
