Boeing has released its annual manpower forecast, projecting a substantial demand for skilled workers in the aviation industry over the next 20 years. A staggering total of 2.3 million aviation professionals will be required to meet the growing needs of air travel. The forecast indicates that 649,000 pilots, 690,000 technicians, and 938,000 cabin crew members will be in demand as retirements take place and air travel expands, especially in emerging markets, particularly in Asia. North America is expected to fill only about 20 percent of these positions.
As traditional sources like the military, charter, and regional carriers see a decline in the inflow of skilled personnel, many airlines are adopting in-house training programs to address the staffing gap. Boeing is also taking proactive measures to contribute to the training of aviation professionals, focusing on creating more efficient and effective training programs. Chris Broom, Vice President of Commercial Training Solutions at Boeing Global Services, emphasized the importance of competency-based training and assessment offerings in ensuring high-quality training for current and future aviation professionals. Boeing aims to enhance aviation safety through immersive and virtual training solutions as the demand for aviation personnel continues to rise, with domestic air travel fully recovered and international traffic approaching pre-pandemic levels.
