Bye Aerospace, an electric aircraft developer based in Denver, Colorado, has recently announced the signing of four letters of intent (LOIs) with prominent aviation training providers for the acquisition of 340 eFlyer aircraft. While the specific terms of the agreements were not disclosed, these LOIs mark a significant step for Bye Aerospace's eFlyer program.
The eFlyer program was initially launched with the goal of designing and manufacturing the two-seat eFlyer aircraft, intending to obtain full certification under the new FAR 23 Amendment 64, "normal category." The primary focus is on marketing the aircraft to the global flight training industry, with plans to expand its utility across various sectors, including pilot-owners, businesses, charter services, and regional aviation. Bye Aerospace's website indicates that by mid-2023, they have already accumulated a customer backlog worth over $1 billion.
According to Tom Calgaard, Senior VP of Bye Aerospace, the eFlyer aircraft is well-aligned with the requirements of aviation training providers and establishes new standards for excellence in electric aviation. The company claims that eFlyer offers a substantial reduction in flight operating costs, with up to 80% lower costs compared to conventional trainers.
Bye Aerospace's President, Rod Zastrow, expressed enthusiasm about the aviation training industry's response to their eFlyer program, reinforcing their commitment to shaping the future of aviation. He believes that Bye Aerospace is well-positioned to make a significant impact on the aviation training sector.
