The Canadian government has officially announced its decision to acquire at least 14 Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, marking the end of a yearlong campaign by Bombardier to consider its Global 6500 business jet variant. Despite pleas and proposals from Bombardier, Canada opted for the P-8A Poseidon, stating it as the only aircraft meeting the requirements for replacing the aging Lockheed CP-140 fleet. The move helps extend production for the Boeing P-8A and comes with an investment of CAD10.4 billion ($7.66 billion), with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2033. Bombardier, expressing disappointment, aims to continue marketing its maritime patrol variant globally.
