DeltaHawk Receives FAA Certification for DHK180 Piston Engine, Offering Innovative Power Solution


DeltaHawk, in an announcement on Thursday, revealed that it has successfully obtained FAA type certification for its groundbreaking 180-HP DHK180 piston engine. This clean-sheet design incorporates a four-cylinder inverted-V engine block, turbocharging, supercharging, mechanical fuel injection, liquid cooling, direct drive, and boasts an impressive claim of "40 percent fewer moving parts than other engines in its category." Notably, the DHK180 has the capability to run on Jet-A and sustainable aviation jet fuels.

Christopher Ruud, the CEO of DeltaHawk, emphasized the company's commitment to reimagining the concept of a general aviation engine. Ruud expressed his enthusiasm for the certified engine, emphasizing its game-changing nature. The development process has been an extensive endeavor, with the company investing significant time and resources in engineering simplicity, performance, and reliability. The result is a truly revolutionary power solution aptly named "Power Reimagined."

With dimensions measuring 33 inches by 24 inches by 22 inches and a dry weight of 357 pounds, the DHK180 boasts a compact design. DeltaHawk has already embarked on performance and technical upgrades, along with additional endurance testing and flight evaluations across multiple aircraft platforms. Deliveries of the DHK180 are slated to commence in 2024, while pricing details for the engine are yet to be disclosed. DeltaHawk also indicated that the DHK180 is the inaugural model in a family of engines, suggesting future innovations and expansions on their power offerings.
