Emergency Evacuation Slide Detaches from United Airlines Aircraft near Chicago

In a recent incident, a United Airlines Boeing 767-300 aircraft encountered an unexpected occurrence as it lost an emergency evacuation slide shortly before its scheduled landing at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). The incident was discovered by maintenance personnel after the safe landing, with no issues reported during the flight. The missing slide was later located in a neighborhood approximately four miles east of ORD, prompting the involvement of the Chicago police.

United Airlines promptly informed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about the incident and is actively collaborating with its team to gather more details and comprehend the circumstances surrounding this occurrence.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, and the missing slide has been recovered. Minor damage was incurred by a nearby residence where the slide landed in the backyard. The affected aircraft, United Flight 12, was en route from Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, carrying 10 crew members and 155 passengers. The FAA has initiated an investigation into the matter.
