Honda has unveiled plans to invest $56 million in constructing a new factory at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. The facility, situated at the same location as the original HondaJet factory, will serve as the production site for Honda's second business jet, the HondaJet 2600. With a seating capacity of up to 11 people and a range of 2,625 nautical miles, the HondaJet 2600 aims to deliver exceptional performance and comfort. The factory is expected to employ 280 individuals, offering an average wage of $80,000 per year.
Simultaneously, Boom Supersonic has commenced construction on its Overture supersonic airliner manufacturing plant at the same airport. Spanning 62 acres, the facility, known as the "Overture Superfactory" campus, will serve as the final assembly line, testing facility, and customer delivery center for Boom's revolutionary supersonic airliner. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, marking a significant step towards realizing Boom's vision for supersonic travel.
To encourage these investments, local and state governments are providing incentives to both Honda and Boom. These initiatives aim to foster economic growth, create high-paying jobs, and leverage the region's skilled workforce and robust infrastructure. Governor Roy Cooper expressed optimism about the positive impact of these developments on the local economy, stating, "Our economy is taking flight with a talented workforce and strong infrastructure ready for these new, good-paying jobs in innovation and aerospace."
