Honeywell and Supernal, Hyundai's advanced air mobility (AAM) subsidiary, have joined forces to develop a ground control station for Supernal's remotely piloted advanced air mobility system. The software, unveiled at NBAA, will initially be deployed in the flight testing phase of Supernal's aircraft program, with plans for real-world operations, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) applications. Honeywell's ground control station technology is scalable, capable of managing a multitude of vehicles across various stations, depending on the operator's requirements.
While much of the focus in the AAM industry revolves around the aircraft themselves, the control infrastructure is fundamental to their successful operation. The collaboration between Supernal and Honeywell aims to co-create an AAM ecosystem that can support the industry's growth in the coming decades, with ground control stations playing a pivotal role. Supernal's commercial AAM operations are slated to be ready for launch in 2028.
