Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developer, Joby Aviation, has unveiled its first Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) report, providing insights into the company's safety strategy, environmental impact, team demographics, and corporate governance structure. Spearheaded by newly appointed sustainability lead, Claire Boland, the report represents Joby's commitment to advancing the aviation industry's transition to climate-neutral flight.
Joby founder and CEO, JoeBen Bevirt, expressed the company's dedication to accelerating the adoption of sustainable aviation. He stated, "We intend to do everything we can to accelerate the aviation industry's transition to climate-neutral flight. This report marks an important step towards a deeper understanding of our environmental footprint, and we look forward to building on this foundation in the years ahead."
A notable feature of the report is the inclusion of what Joby believes to be the eVTOL industry's first comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA). Developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the LCA evaluates the greenhouse gas impact of Joby's aircraft. The assessment reveals that Joby's aircraft have a life cycle greenhouse gas impact 1.5 times smaller than that of an electric car when both vehicles are charged with 100% renewable electricity and used for commuting purposes at scale. Joby plans to further analyze the projected environmental impact of its aircraft as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability.
With the release of its ESG report, Joby Aviation demonstrates its dedication to transparency and environmental responsibility as it strives to shape the future of sustainable eVTOL flight.
