KLM Flight Academy Commits to Modernization with Order of 14 Diamond Aircraft
KLM Flight Academy has taken a significant step towards upgrading its training fleet by placing an order for 14 Diamond aircraft. This substantial order encompasses 12 single-engine DA40 NGs and two twin-engine DA42-VI aircraft. The commencement of deliveries is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Currently employing Socata TB-10s and TB-20s for single-engine training, the academy aims to revitalize its training capabilities.
Auke Dros, Managing Director of KLM Flight Academy, expressed enthusiasm about the fleet renewal, stating, "With the replacement of the aging fleet with twelve DA40 NG and an additional two DA42-VI aircraft, KLM Flight Academy is ready for the flight training requirements of today and tomorrow. The aircraft are quieter, more fuel-efficient, and incorporate the latest technological advancements. This means that we can now offer our students even better flight training."
Additionally, Dros highlighted the academy's keen interest in acquiring Diamond's electric eDA40 model once it attains certification. Located at Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ) in the Netherlands, KLM Flight Academy annually trains approximately 60 students. Graduates from the academy's two-year program typically go on to join KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
