New Zealand's Vickers WAVE Amphibious Aircraft Takes Flight

A New Zealand-based company has successfully conducted a test flight of its innovative amphibious aircraft, the Vickers WAVE, which is poised to benefit from the forthcoming MOSAIC rules. This aircraft is equipped with a Rotax 916 engine and a constant-speed propeller, featuring a design reminiscent of the ICON A5 but with impressive performance figures. The Vickers WAVE boasts a cruising speed of 120 knots, a climb rate of 1100 feet per minute, and a substantial 750-pound useful load, all within a total weight of 1850 pounds. The aircraft is projected to offer a range of 1,100 nautical miles and is equipped with powered folding wings for versatile use on water. Additionally, it incorporates water thrusters in its hull for enhanced aquatic capabilities.

Paul Vickers, the owner of the company, expressed, "We have been building the WAVE for 13 years, have a full production facility, and will begin deliveries next year." Notably, 60 percent of the company is owned by U.S. investors, and there are plans to manufacture the aircraft in the United States, expanding its reach and impact in the aviation industry.
