Sensenich Propellers has achieved a significant milestone with the receipt of a supplemental type certificate (STC) for its carbon fiber short takeoff and landing (STOL) propeller, designed specifically for Piper Super Cub aircraft. The STC covers 2-blade, ground adjustable propellers suitable for Super Cubs powered by Lycoming O-320 engines. The company has announced that the STC is now available, and the shipment of pre-ordered propellers has already commenced.
The certification project involved rigorous testing in both Alaska and Texas, where the propeller showcased its impressive attributes, including reduced weight, heightened responsiveness, and enhanced operational flexibility. Sensenich emphasizes that these features deliver superior performance, particularly in challenging and dynamic operating conditions. Notably, the innovative pitch adjustment feature and stainless steel leading edge protection further contribute to maximizing performance.
For a limited time, Sensenich offers attractive pricing, with the propeller priced at $6,350 and the spinner at $735 during the AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in. However, after August 1, the pricing will adjust to $7,250 for the propeller and $785 for the spinner. Sensenich has additional projects in the works, such as securing FAA approval for carbon fiber ground adjustable propeller STCs for Lycoming O-320-powered Cessna 172s and pursuing propeller type certification for four-cylinder Continental and Lycoming engines ranging from 65 to 140 horsepower. Since its inception in the early 1930s, Sensenich has expanded its offerings from wooden propellers to include carbon fiber props, which were introduced in the late 1990s.
