United Airlines Launches Program to Facilitate Military Pilot Transition to Commercial Aviation

United Airlines has introduced a recruitment campaign aimed at easing the transition from military aviation to commercial airline flying. Under this initiative, eligible candidates are assured a right-seat position and are not required to obtain an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate before applying. United Airlines stated in a press release that candidates can earn their ATP certification before commencing their roles at the airline, offering flexibility that accommodates their personal circumstances and commitments.

The program is open to active-duty and reserve military pilots, as well as individuals with prior military flying experience who meet the essential qualifications. Currently, United Airlines boasts around 3,000 military-experienced pilots among its 16,000-strong pilot workforce, with an additional 9,200 employees in various roles. To meet its ambitious growth objectives, including the recent order of 100 Boeing 787 aircraft, United Airlines plans to hire 10,000 pilots over the next decade.
