White House Announces Boeing 737 Max Deal Worth $7.8 Billion with Vietnam Airlines

The White House disclosed a significant agreement on Monday, September 11, during President Biden's visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, aimed at strengthening the United States' presence in the South Pacific. According to Reuters, the deal involves Vietnam Airlines acquiring 50 Boeing 737 Max 8 airliners, with a total estimated value of $7.8 billion.

Vietnam's aviation sector has witnessed remarkable growth, as reported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Following the removal of COVID-19-related travel restrictions, Vietnam secured its position as the world's fifth-fastest-growing aviation market in 2022. Projections from IATA indicate that Vietnam is expected to transport a staggering 150 million passengers by the year 2035.

In addition to the agreement with Vietnam Airlines, Boeing has also inked a separate deal with VietJet, a competitor of Vietnam Airlines, for the acquisition of 200 Boeing 737 Max airliners, further underscoring the robust expansion of Vietnam's aviation industry.
